YOUR STAY AT THE CLINIC
Our midwives and expert nursing staff will gradually introduce to you caring for your baby. You will learn how to recognise the needs of your child and how to respond to them. Within a very short space of time, you will feel secure in caring for your baby.
Our rooming-in system gives you the option of having your newborn baby in your room with you 24 hours a day. This is an optimal way of becoming familiar with your child’s needs.
Your baby will be examined by a paediatrician following the birth and before your discharge from the hospital. Where required, additional examinations will be made. Your gynaecologist will usually pay you a daily visit, will be available to answer your questions and will engage in consultation with our nursing staff concerning your ongoing care.
For more information on the subject of the birth, please see the chapter entitled Birth and Your Stay at the Clinic.
Breastfeeding-friendly hospital
Since 1996, the Salem Hospital has been the first hospital in its region to fulfil UNICEF guidelines concerning optimum care for mother and child. Our committed and competent breastfeeding and lactation consultants support, instruct and advise both parents, in a targeted and individual manner, during your stay at the clinic and beyond. Similarly, mothers who cannot or do not wish to breastfeed will receive sensitive advice.
